If you’re on this page it’s because you love the Midi. Maybe you already live here, or perhaps it’s just a holiday escape. Either way, you want to know it better.

Southern Times is only a starting point. It will tell you about some of the things that have happened in this part of the world, and some of the things that are going to happen. It will give you practical information about weather and currency exchange and when the banks are likely to be closed.

Some regular features you’ll find are WHAT’S UP, D’OC? – a roundup of events in the area; MIDI MATTERS – a series of light-hearted sketches based on one person’s experience of life in the Midi; DOING THEIR THING – a look at some of the unlikely things expatriates get up to down here and NEED A HAND? – where you can look for (or advertise) services: removals, building/decorating, cleaning, pool maintenance or whatever.

The most important things, though, are not what we put in but what you put in. If you want us to cover a particular topic, tell us. If you have a story to tell, share it with us. If you have a comment to make, join our forum and find like-minded people to discuss it with.

THIS MONTH: how an English accountant became a vigneron; news of an English book event, and a round-up of some of the season’s fetes and events.
